Here are some of the great comments our clients have shared with us:

Ashley Ross - long distance runner
“I joined Body and Fuel with the idea of becoming a more well rounded athlete. I have been a runner for only about 4 years and recently qualified for the Boston Marathon. I knew that with being honored enough to run with some of the most elite athletes from around the world that I would need to supplement my training with more than just running. Upon my first contact with Body and Fuel I was hooked, little did I know that I was going to get more than just someone telling me “here is the workout for today, get it done”. Mike has taken my full marathon training schedule and altered it to ensure that I get my cross training and running in without burning out or getting injured. I was told from the coaches that with crossfit I would actually be able to drastically cut my mileage in a week down and still be stronger than I was when I was putting in all of the miles. I laughed at them and thought that they must have lost their minds!! I was not a believer.. .besides how can a runner be successful and get better without… RUNNING all the time? Well, the answer is simple YOU CAN- with the proper coaching, nutrition, and Crossfit. I have never felt so strong training for a marathon before and I look forward to seeing the results. I couldn’t have done it without the help from every coach EVERYDAY at Body and Fuel. They are your biggest cheerleader, greatest teacher, and the driving force behind getting healthy and strong. They know my strengths, my weakness’s and more about what I am capable of than I know of myself. Some days you will hate them but at the end of the day you will be thanking them!”
UPDATE – Ashley just recently hit another PR for her 1/2 Marathon time AND qualified for the NY Marathon!

My crossfit journey:
I first started CrossFit in August of 2010 after my good friend Dawna kept telling me how fun it was and how much I would love it. I had one excuse or the other for not going, but when I finally did, I was hooked. Not only did I experience a decent post-workout high which made me want to go out and run a few miles after the WOD, I realized I finally found the fitness regime I had been searching for all my life. You see, I have tried it all: Insanity, P90x, Tae-Bo, Buns of Steel, weights and elliptical at the gym, and the list goes on…
At first, I had self-defeating thoughts like: I’ll never do an unassisted pull-up or a 24″ inch box jump. I’ll never deadlift over 200 lbs. or do a deep back squat. I resigned myself to accepting my limitations and to simply have fun doing the WODs while pushing myself harder everyday. I was enjoying the smaller group workouts, the amazing people I was meeting, and the knowledge I was gaining from the trainers.
As time passed by, I started to take notice of some things: I went from a 13″ box jump to the 20″, I went from the green pull-up band to the blue, I was doing all the push-ups rx’d, and, was improving my running times. All these accomplishments made me realize I no longer believed I had limitations. I started setting goals for myself and achieving them: dead-lifting over 200 lbs., doing my first hand-stand push-up, and finally, doing more and more WODs rx’d. The most exciting in which I did my first rx’d WOD with double-unders, and the bomb of them all doing my first rx’d WOD with pull-ups.
In addition to believing I no longer have limitations at crossfit, I also feel an increased self-confidence that has carried over into my personal and professional life. One final item worth mentioning is the way I changed my eating habits as a result of all the information I have received from my trainers. I realized the benefits of eating a paleo diet and as a result have renewed my passion for cooking. My life has truly changed since I started working out at Crossfit Body and Fuel and I am amazed at how much it has sculpted my body, changed my outlook about nutrition, and inspired me to set goals I once thought were unattainable. And, one more thing, my friend Dawna who introduced me to crossfit just happens to be an absolutely fantastic trainer at Body and Fuel. In fact, all the trainers there are amazing and will help push you hard, perfect your form, and share their knowledge regarding fitness and nutrition.

I started at CFBF a little over 3 months ago. After my friend Carie’s constant ranting about how great it was, I caved in and tried it out for a week. After the first week I was still pretty intimidated but knew that I wanted to keep going because the coaches made a huge impression on me with all their motivation and encouragement. When I first started, I would watch people climb the rope and do double unders and wonder if I would ever be able to do that. Now I can climb that rope and link my double unders. Before I joined CFBF I had really low self confidence and I was a chronic insomniac. I took the 30 day nutrition challenge and it seriously changed my life. Mike taught me how to eat right and how important it was to get enough sleep. It was really hard for me at first but I was determined to learn it and stick with it. Now I eat paleo and I sleep 8+ hours every night and my self confidence is back. I have to say that Dawna is amazing. She pushes me so hard and I end up doing things that I thought I wasn’t capable of doing. It’s a great feeling! That unassisted pull up may be coming up sooner than I anticipated.
I still have a long way to go. I’ve set goals and I know for sure that as long as I keep working hard and eating right I will see changes and meet those goals.

I love this gym. I have been a member of the more traditional gyms in the past and could never get into it. This gym has a different workout every day that is challenging and fun. The class sizes are always small and the coaches/trainers are awesome and very supportive.
What I enjoy most are the other people that go there. There is just a bunch of great people having fun and trying to be healthy. Everyone is very supportive of each other and there is no “attitude” here.
I have lost a bunch of weight and am in the best shape I have been in years. I wish I would have started CrossFit earlier. You should really give them a try.

I started working out at Crossfit Body & Fuel 12 weeks after I broke my shoulder in four places. I’d been active in the past, but the injury and life stress had turned me into a couch potato at that point. The trainers at CFBF were great at modifying workouts and still keeping me challenged. I firmly believe that the quick improvement in my strength and range of motion was largely due to crossfit. Now, seven months later, I’m not the skinniest or fastest woman at the gym, but I work hard and love each grueling session. The trainers, and other members, do a great job of encouraging and pushing to keep everyone on their toes and doing their best. – T.H., 38

Alex Pavlenco – Runner

I started coming to Body and Fuel 5 months ago. I had been running for several years and felt that I was in average condition. I’m 63, I eat healthy food, I thought I was fit. I was led to cross fit by my son who lives in St. Louis and has been involved at a cross fit program for 1 1/2 years.
My expectations when I began were minimal and vague. With the help of the staff I’ve firmed up my goals and am on the way to met them and to develop more rigorous goals. I’ve firmed my core, developed strength and stamina that I’ve not had before.
I was coached for 30 days of VERY healthy eating. I recently attended a seminar to develop stamina in running. There are lots of benefits beyond the daily workouts.
Another bonus….the staff is wonderful. Mike, Dawna, Maggie, and Shawn are great. There are other well trained athletes that are willing to help. There is a good sense of community that is hard to define but adds greatly to the fitness experience.
My son led me to cross fit. I’ve become a believer. Body and Fuel is a good place to find health, fitness, and community.

I started at CrossFit Body and Fuel in January and started the Paleo challenge not long after that, in February. When I started I was significantly overweight and out of shape. The year prior I went to the dr. and one of my cardio tests came back elevated. Needless to say, I was worried about my health in general, but specifically I was worried about my heart health. After just 5 months of starting CrossFit/Paleo I went back to the dr. and she was stunned. I lost nearly 30 pounds, my blood pressure was lower and that test…well, it is no longer elevated! I am now 5 pant sizes smaller, I feel very strong and I no longer hate looking at myself in the mirror! The CrossFit Body and Fuel coaches are amazing. I appreciate that they keep challenging me and I especially appreciate the community they have created…it is truly the people that keep me coming back.

After years of working out in a big box gym, I finally decided to give Crossfit a try. Having seen some videos of the Crossfit Games competition, I knew that this type of programming had to be successful in building superior athletes, and I wanted to see how it would help me. My training evolved over the course of my first month to the point that it is at today, where I work primarily on a combination of strength training and Olympic lifting. One of the things that is so great about Body and Fuel is the flexible environment that allows you to work towards different (and changing) goals. Using the program that is ideal for me, I’ve added significant weight to all of my lifts, well above what I was able to achieve without Crossfit. I’ve heard people say that Crossfit is really only a good program for increasing your cardio conditioning, and that it can’t help you with strength goals, and that is flat out wrong. Whenever I do a traditional WOD I am reminded of how cardio intense they are, but just looking around me it’s easy to see that everyone is getting stronger as well, especially people who have elected to make strength work their primary goal. Crossfit trainers are called Coaches, and they really earn that designation. We are not talking about a group of people who pull a workout from some other source, copy it and then sit behind a desk while you casually do it alone. Every day that I am in the gym Mike (or one of the other Coaches) is helping provide me with programming, technique critiques and motivation to stay on the path that will take me where I want to go. I’m looking forward to continuing my progress with the help of the Body and Fuel community.

In June 2010 I stumbled upon Crossfit Body & Fuel and came to a class on the first day they opened their doors. That same month, I began training for my first marathon. Both of these things were out of my comfort level. I remember watching youtube videos of CF workouts and thinking to myself ‘Seriously, did she just jump that high?!?’ I’m so glad that I didn’t let those videos scare me away. CFBF is amazing. The community and the coaches are so supportive. It seems intimidating until you show up, then it changes to inspiring. Now I see ladies I know jump that high and think ‘Well, if she can do it, maybe I should try too!’ I’m back to training for my second marathon and can’t believe how much stronger I feel, with one year of CF under my belt. At CFBF you’ll meet your goals, make new friends and wonder how you ever lived without it.

I had been toying with idea of giving crossfit a try for months. Then while getting ready to start training for my 3rd marathon, I injured my foot and what I thought was only going to be 5-6 weeks away from running turned into 7 months. So, I turned to CrossFit Body and Fuel. Two weeks into my first month at Body and Fuel, my doctor put me in a hard boot. I remember showing up to class right after my doctor’s appointment. I was so upset. One of the trainers, Mike, told me not to worry, that they would adjust the workouts so I could still participate. And that is what I love best about CrossFit Body and Fuel. No matter what your fitness level or whether you have physical limitations, the trainers there can always come up with a way to modify and tailor the workout to meet your needs. Now, months later, the boot is the in attic and I just got back from a 5 mile run.
